A week of public agitation

Numerous groups took to the streets this week for various demands. It was a week of continuous protests. At least ten protests were held across the country calling for various demands.

Two of the main opposition parties, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) held protests against the alleged destruction of the environment, while the Satyagraha by farmers in Hambantota calling for the Elephant management zone also continued.

Labour struggle center launched a protest calling for salary increases for both the public and the private sector. Ceylon Electricity Board employees in their protests drew attention to the promotion delays and recruitment issues. The Inter-University Students Federation also joined the fray to raise concerns about the Advanced level cut off marks for University entrance relating to several study programs.
